We Are Part of Nature. Connecting Nature, Ourselves, and Creativity
John Muir, father of the national parks, considered humans to be part of nature. He wrote about its beauty and power
“When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.”
(John Muir, 1938–1914)
Nature as a Muse and Inspiration
We are not separate from nature, instead, we are one with it. John Muir (1838–1914), born in Scotland, became a worldwide naturalist and environmentalist, advocating for the preservation of wilderness. He wrote books and essays detailing his adventures across a vast wilderness. His activism led to the formation of Yosemite National Park. His articles and books were read by millions.
Nature and Creativity
Nature inspires those seeking healing and creativity. John Muir’s writing was so powerful that it moved politicians to action and changed how people felt about and experienced nature. In 1903, President Roosevelt accompanied John on a trip to Yosemite National Park, to address the mismanagement of the valley and securely control it. They camped for three nights with heavy snowfall.
